Taking place in a limestone cave in Vietnam, Equation is one of the most picturesque electronic festivals in the region with a programme that emphasises East and Southeast Asian selectors in particular.

Vietnam is certainly a popular destination, but combine it with this scenic three-day extravaganza and you’ve got an irresistible combination for electronic music enthusiasts looking for something different on the festival circuit. Founded by the team behind the vital underground club Savage in Hanoi, Cliché Records and Fragrant Harbour in Hong Kong, Equation takes place annually in the sustainable Mo Luong Cave, belonging to the Pu Kha mountain range system. The venue has four caves within itself, and has retained its wild, natural features. For example, the stalactites within the caves add to the visual rave experience, its clusters glistening like lights in the dark.

The programming plays a crucial role within the broader Asian electronic underground too, and Equation provides a playground in which to celebrate the scenes blossoming across various regions. Pulling in regional talents from countries such as Japan and beyond (last year, they hosted sets from Powder and Wata Igarishi), they’re programmed alongside the likes of diasporic selectors (Seoul-born, Berlin-based artist DJ Fart in the Club, for example) and international artists like Roza Terenzi for the 2024 edition. Celebrating the diversity of East and Southeast Asian talents in particular, Equation is a genre-agnostic platform where ravers can, this year, experience the harsh noise and experimentalism of artists such as ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U in a cavernous space, along with ambient selections complemented by sunsets dipping into the vast mountains outside, or dance deep into the limestone cave to house, funk, techno and trance selections from Savage residents. We’re booking our tickets.
